About a girl

A day in a life of a girl.

Artwork by Phillipa Jane McDonnell.

She woke up one morning

A little too late,

Rushed right into bathroom

While swearing at fate.

There was no more toothpaste

And that made her mad.

She tripped on the carpet.

“This day will be bad!”

Her coffee was bitter.

It spilled on the floor.

“Oh, fuck this! I’m done!”

And she rushed out the door.

 She got to the station

And missed her Bank train

Cause Oyster malfunctioned.

Then it started to rain.

Commute was horrific

There’s nowhere to sit.

Then someone walked in

With McDonalds to eat.

The smell of burnt bacon,

Hash browns oozing fat

“Disgusting!” she thought,

“This can poison a rat!”

At work, at a lunch time

Around half past one,

She opened the fridge

Just to see her food gone.

Somebody just took it!

Frustrated and hungry

She cried for a minute

Too weak to be angry.

Then later that day

Right away after work

She stopped at a Tesco

To buy some minced pork.

The package was broken,

It dirtied her dress.

Misfortunes kept piling

And causing her stress.

 At home all seemed normal

’Till she dropped a plate.

She sighed not surprised,

That was that day’s fate.

At last in her bed.

Asleep, thanks to rum.

All troubles forgotten,

Alarm not turned on….
